Il tracciato, molto veloce e caratterizzato da grandi salti, si è rivelato spettacolare ed è stato ben preparato dopo le piogge cadute in vari momenti durante il weekend. Diciottesimo e diciannovesimo nelle sessioni di prove libere e cronometrate, Ben Watson (Beta RX450) in qualifica si è ritrovato senza freno posteriore dopo un contatto con un avversario e si è dovuto accontentare della ventiquattresima posizione al traguardo. Costretto a schierarsi al cancello lontano dalle postazioni migliori, l’inglese nella prima manche ha rimontato bene chiudendo al sedicesimo posto. Nella seconda, Ben ha dovuto fare ancora i conti con un problema alla leva del freno posteriore, ma è riuscito a migliorare il suo piazzamento terminando quindicesimo. Sedicesimo nella classifica assoluta a fine giornata, Watson occupa la diciassettesima in quella di campionato. Tom Koch (Beta RX450) ha avuto qualche difficoltà a trovare il feeling con il tracciato e ha segnato il ventunesimo tempo nelle prove cronometrate. In qualifica la situazione è decisamente migliorata e il tedesco si è piazzato quindicesimo. Purtroppo, nelle manche titolate Tom non è mai riuscito a centrare delle buone partenze ma è stato sempre in grado di risalire in zona punti. Grazie al diciottesimo e diciannovesimo posto ottenuti in gara Koch ha chiuso il GP in ventunesima posizione Assoluta. Tra due settimane MRT Racing Team Beta Factory sarà impegnato a Cózar, in Spagna, nel Gran Premio di Castilla-La Mancha, secondo appuntamento stagionale e prima gara europea del Campionato Mondiale Motocross FIM 2025.
Ben Watson: “Il mio potenziale era buono in questo weekend, ma le cose non sono andate nella giusta direzione. Nelle prove guidavo bene ma le traiettorie che seguivo non erano le migliori e i miei tempi ne hanno risentito. In qualifica ho danneggiato il freno posteriore nei primi giri e a quel punto ho cercato di arrivare al traguardo senza prendere troppi rischi. Il piazzamento ottenuto in qualifica non mi ha permesso di schierarmi in una buona posizione al cancello. Al via della prima manche ho avuto qualche problema alla prima curva ma ho fatto una buona rimonta chiudendo sedicesimo. Nella seconda, al terzo giro ho rotto ancora la leva del freno posteriore dopo un contatto. Malgrado le precarie condizioni sono riuscito a terminare in quindicesima posizione. Adesso ci focalizziamo con i nostri sforzi per fare meglio in Spagna.”
Tom Koch: “Sono contento di aver partecipato al mio primo GP fuori dall’Europa. Il tracciato mi è piaciuto. Sembrava una pista americana, molto veloce e con salti enormi. Durante le prove ho fatto fatica a trovare il ritmo ma in qualifica ho guidato bene e ho chiuso al quindicesimo posto. Domenica ho fatto troppi errori in partenza. Nella seconda manche sono anche caduto e quando ho ripreso la corsa ero praticamente ultimo. Guido bene e sono convinto che migliorando le partenze i risultati arriveranno. Penso che i miei piazzamenti di oggi non rispecchino la mia velocità. Dobbiamo continuare a lavorare e impegnarci per fare meglio tra due settimane in Spagna.”

The new circuit of Córdoba, hosted the first season round of the FIM Motocross World Championship 2025. The track, very fast and characterised by big jumps, proved to be spectacular and was well prepared after rain fell at various times during the weekend. Eighteenth and nineteenth in the free practice and qualification, Ben Watson (Beta RX450) found himself without a rear brake in qualifying after contact with an opponent and had to settle for 24th position at the finish. Forced to line up at the gate far from the best positions, the English rider made a good recovery in the first heat to finish sixteenth. In the second heat, Ben still had to deal with a problem with his rear brake lever, but managed to improve his placing by finishing fifteenth. Sixteenth overall at the end of the day, Watson occupies seventeenth in the championship standings. Tom Koch (Beta RX450) had some difficulty finding his feeling for the track and set the 21st fastest time in timed practice. In qualifying the situation improved and the German placed fifteenth.
Unfortunately, in the heats Tom was never able to make good starts but was always able to climb back into the points zone. Thanks to his eighteenth and nineteenth places in the race Koch finished the GP in 21st position overall. Two weeks from now MRT Racing Team Beta Factory will be at Cózar, Spain, in the Grand Prix of Castilla-La Mancha, the second round of the season and first European race of the FIM Motocross World Championship 2025.
Ben Watson: “My potential was good this weekend, but things didn’t go in the right direction. In practice, I was riding well but the lines I was following were not the best and my times weren’t good. In qualifying I damaged the rear brake in the first few laps and at that point I tried to get to the finish line without taking too many risks. The placing I got in qualifying did not allow me to line up in a good position at the gate. At the start of the first heat, I had some problems in the first corner but I made a good comeback and finished sixteenth. In the second race, on the third lap I broke the rear brake lever after a contact. Despite the precarious conditions I managed to finish in fifteenth place. We will now focus our efforts on doing better in Spain.”
Tom Koch: “I am happy to have participated in my first GP outside Europe. I liked the track. It felt like an American track, very fast and with huge jumps. During practice I had difficulty finding my rhythm, but in qualifying I drove well and finished 15th. On Sunday I made too many mistakes at the start. In the second heat I also crashed and when I resumed the race I was practically last. I ride well and I am convinced that by improving the starts the results will come. I think my placings today do not reflect my speed. We have to keep working and strive to do better in a couple of weeks in Spain.”
